I'm happy to report that the accessioning groundwork has been completed and we've moved on to preserving the scrapbooks. This is a whole new challenge, due to the sheer number of pages and items per page. We're running through photo corners and scrapbook pages at an alarming rate! But it's worth it to see more than seventy year old mementos re-housed and ready for future generations.
We'll be hosting our volunteer weekend next weekend, (July 11th) from noon to four p.m. Come ready to work on Helen's photo albums which reveal the amazing life she led, and the experiences she had in the Flint Hills and beyond.
Also on deck for that day, come talk to Carla Gallmeister, the museum's director/curator/saint about your experiences, now or many years ago, at the Chase County Fair in preparation for an exhibit entitled "Fun at the Fair" set for August. Be a part of history at your museum!
And if you're feeling really adventurous, come help or watch us rock at the Chase County Museum's Rock-a-thon, a fundraiser, with sponsored "rockers"...in rocking chairs! We're looking for sponsors so we don't have to sponsor ourselves. If you're interested please contact us at danaandlynne@gmail.com
Helen's collection continues to astound me every time I open something she's saved. Whether it's a cruise to Cuba for $27.50 (I wish!) or a thank you card from her students, you can tell how much she loved life and inspired that sort of passion in everyone she met. Dana
